BOCA RATON, FL -
Angie Rodgers has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Florida Atlantic University, announced FAU head coach, Chancellor Dugan. Rodgers, a 5-7 guard, is a senior at Castle High School in Newburgh, IN.
As a junior, Rodgers averaged 12.9 points per game while breaking the school record for points in a season. She also set a school record for free-throw percentage (86.8 percent), was named all-conference first-team, and led her team to a 19-6 record and a Class 4A sectional title. Rodgers was an all-metro first-team selection and was named Castle's most valuable player.
"Angie will help ease the departure of LaTorria Matthews," said Dugan referring to one of two returning seniors to this year's squad. "It's hard to find a shooter of LaTorria's caliber, but we're hoping Angie can step in and fill those shoes. Her quickness, intelligence, and shooting touch will allow us to play her at either the point or the two-guard positions."
Dugan first met Rodgers when she was in the sixth grade. That's when she attended the Chancellor Dugan Basketball Camp while Dugan was head coach at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, IN.
Rodgers will join the Lady Owls for the 2001-02 season.
