SAN DIEGO, CA -
Florida Atlantic University was defeated 90-57 Thursday night in a non-conference game at San Diego State University. The loss drops the Owls to 1-5 on the season as Raheim Brown led FAU with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Jeff Cowans and Jeff Hamilton each added 13 for the Owls. SDSU's Randy Holcomb scored a game-high 25 points.
The Aztecs (3-1) led 37-33 at the half before outscoring FAU 53-24 in a decisive second half. San Diego State shot 60-percent from the field in the final 20 minutes compared to FAU's 19-percent. For the game, FAU was outshot 48-percent to 28-percent.
The Owls started out with a 14-8 lead with 13:54 left in the first half. Leading 25-22 with 6:33 left in the half, San Diego State went on an 8-0 run in reclaiming the lead for good en route to the four-point halftime advantage.
"Unfortunately, we didn't play as well in the second half," said FAU head coach Sidney Green. "In the first half, we were able to contain them and control the tempo. In the second half, you have to give them credit. They came out and played with a lot more aggression, and they were able to beat us."
FAU next faces Troy State University Saturday night in Troy, AL as the Owls play their first Trans America Athletic Conference game of the season. It will be the third different time zone the Owls have played in since Monday.
