BOCA RATON, FL -
Florida Atlantic University had its three-match winning streak snapped Sunday night as visiting Jacksonville University defeated the Lady Owls, 1-0, in a match that featured a deluge in the final 28 minutes of the first half and the first ten minutes of the second half. JU's goal came with 14:12 left in the match when Hanni Wenzell's header connected off of a corner kick. The loss drops FAU to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in Trans America Athletic Conference play.
Neither team managed a significant threat through the first part of the first half or through the rain. Each team finished the first half with just five shots.
In the second half, JU outshot FAU 8-2 for a 13-7 advantage for the match. FAU's Molly Keating finished with five saves on the night.
"We really battled hard through some crazy conditions, and it took a corner kick for (Jacksonville) to win," said FAU head coach Brian Dooley. "It's hard to match up with their three six-footers in the box."
The win extends JU's winning streak to 12 matches and improves their record to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in TAAC play.
FAU's defensive effort held the Dolphins under three goals for only the second time this season.
Florida Atlantic next hosts Stetson October 12 at 7:00pm.
