BOCA RATON, FL -
Florida Atlantic University recorded its sixth shutout of the season in defeating visiting Stetson University, 1-0, Thursday night. The win improves the Lady Owls to 9- 4 overall and 4-2 in Trans America Athletic Conference play.
Lauren Lucena scored the only goal of the game at the 30-minute mark on an assist by Lauren Manfrass. While FAU had more opportunities to add to its lead, the Lady Owls defense held Stetson (5-8, 1-3 TAAC) to just three shots on the night. On the other side, FAU fired 21.
"The kids are a little frustrated right now," said FAU head coach Brian Dooley. "They are expecting to make every shot, and they're not. But, the important thing is we got another conference win."
The victory also set a new FAU record for most wins at the Division I level. The previous high was eight, set in 1995. Molly Keating added to her team record as she recorded her sixth shutout on the year. She has allowed just two goals in her last five matches.
FAU next hosts Samford University Saturday at 5:00pm.
