Florida Atlantic University's volleyball team saw Danyielle Smith return to the line-up, as a part-time setter and part-time hitter, but the Lady Owls (8-17) could not build a consistent offense in a 15-4, 15-8, 15-10 loss to Florida International University (14-13).
Stacey Carlson led the team with 23 assists, Smith added six to an offense that ran into a strong blocking defense as FIU combined for 11 team blocks, including seven block assists by Melissa Byrus and six by Nirvana Kos.
FAU, which tallied a .067 attack percentage, was led by Gracie Heim who had eight kills and Smith, who had seven. FIU was led by Kos who tallied 16 kills and Adriana Fundora, who added 11. Offensively, FIU was led by Elizabeth Baldwin's 41 assists.
FAU will next play host to Jacksonville State University, 7 pm, Friday in Trans America Athletic Conference competition.
