Atlanta, GA -
Florida Atlantic University defeated Georgia State University 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Atlanta for its fourth straight victory. Melissa Bobby scored the winning goal with 2:53 left in the match. The victory improved FAU to 12-4 on the year and 7-2 in Trans America Athletic Conference play. The win also broke the all-time FAU record for wins in a season, surpassing the previous mark of 11 set in 1992.
Both teams played a scoreless first half before GSU broke out on top with a goal by Ashley Edwards 2:46 into the second half.
FAU's Lauren Manfrass tied the score at 1-1 with a goal on a header at 67:13. Lena Andersson assisted on the score.
Just when it looked like the teams were headed for overtime, Bobby found a seam with 2:53 left in the match and deflected a shot off of GSU goalkeeper Jennifer Espinal for the game- winner.
While guaranteeing its best record in school history, FAU also secured no worse than a third place finish in the TAAC, which would also be a program-best. The match marked the end of TAAC competition for the season as the Lady Owls currently are in second place.
FAU next hosts Florida International October 25 before closing out the regular season October 29 with a home match against North Texas.
