BOCA RATON, FL -
Two second half goals proved to be the difference as Florida Atlantic University (12-5) fell to visiting Florida International University, 2-0, Wednesday in a non- conference match-up in Boca Raton. FIU's Sasja Odenyo scored both goals for the Golden Panthers.
Both teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half as FIU (12-5) outshot FAU 8-3 in the first frame. It took 21:47 of the second half before Odenyo connected for her first goal to give FIU a 1-0 lead. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the match, Odenyo added the insurance goal to give FIU a 2-0 lead. Overall, FIU outshot FAU 16-6.
"We lost to a good team tonight," said FAU head coach Brian Dooley. "It was a good tune-up for us as we get ready for our conference tournament."
The match marked FAU's final regular season contest as Sunday's match against North Texas has been canceled. The Lady Owls finished with the program's best record.
FAU will next participate in, and host, the Trans America Athletic Conference Tournament November 2-4.
