JACKSONVILLE, FL -
Florida Atlantic University and Jacksonville University finished with a 1-1 tie in a Trans America Athletic Conference men's soccer match in Jacksonville, FL Tuesday afternoon.
The match featured as many goals as red cards as both teams played the final 34 minutes a player-down.
FAU (7-5-1, 2-2-1 TAAC) began the scoring when Mark Haskins connected just 7:16 into the match. Federico Santana assisted on the goal. The match remained 1-0 in favor of the Owls into the half.
Three minutes into the second half, JU's Michael Blackburn scored what turned out to be the final goal of the match to tie the score at 1-1.
Four minutes later, FAU's Patrick Slattman was issued a red card. That's when the FAU defense took over and did not allow a JU goal over the next 36 minutes despite being a man- down. In the 87th minute, JU evened the personnel when Brett Surrency picked up his second yellow card of the match. FAU actually outshot JU 7-3 in the second half.
