BOCA RATON, FL -
Florida Atlantic University battled back from a two-goal deficit before eventually falling to visiting Central Florida, 3-2 in double-overtime, Wednesday in Boca Raton. Ornulf Olsen scored two goals, including the game-winner, for the Golden Knights who posted their first victory of the season.
FAU (7-6-1, 2-3-1 Trans America Athletic Conference) fell behind in the sixth minute of the match when UCF's Chris Beaulac gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead. Olsen then gave UCF (1-12-3, 1-4-1 TAAC) a 2-0 lead with a score with 21:07 left in the first half.
Less than three minutes later, FAU cut the deficit in half when Jens Zetterstrom connected off of an assist by Mark Haskins. Federico Santana completed the Owls' first half comeback with a game-tying goal with 8:53 left in the half.
The match remained tied 2-2 throughout the second half, even after UCF's Christian Spong was issued a red card with 17:27 left in regulation.
Despite the man-disadvantage, UCF managed to hold off FAU until Olsen's goal 4:44 into the second overtime period gave the Golden Knights the 3-2 victory.
FAU outshot UCF 21-12, including allowing only five shots after the first half. Haskins finished with two assists for the match while goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad tallied six saves.
