Florida Atlantic University picked up a key Trans America Athletic Conference victory Wednesday night, defeating visiting Campbell 4-1. The victory improved FAU to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in TAAC play. Federico Santana scored three of FAU's goals on the night.
Santana got the scoring going just 3:34 into the match on an unassisted goal. The score remained 1-0 in favor of FAU through the intermission.
In the second half, Santana scored another unassisted goal with 34:51 left in the match to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, Santana completed his hat trick when he scored an an assit from Pablo Luna to give the Owls a 2-0 lead.
Mark Haskins capped off the FAU scoring with 24:47 left when he connected from 10 yards out. Guy Trenard assisted on the play as FAU held a 4-0 advantage.
Campbell (4-8, 2-2 TAAC) prevented the shutout when Roberto Santos scored with 1:05 left to play. Diego Maia assisted on the goal.
"It was an important conference win for us," said FAU head coach Kos Donev. "Now we have to build on this momentum as we continue to try to secure a spot in the TAAC Tournament."
FAU was outshot 14-9 while Owls' goalkeeper Jonas Kolstad finished the match with eight saves.
FAU next plays at Jacksonville October 17.
