BOCA RATON, FL -
The Florida Atlantic University men's soccer team defeated the University of South Florida, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in Boca Raton. FAU (2-2) scored the game-winner on a penalty kick with 33:30 left in the match.
FAU took the first advantage of the match when Mark Haskins scored with 14:26 left in the first half to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. It was Haskins' scored goal of the season.
However, the Bulls tied the match less than a minute later when David Ambush scored off of a deflection by FAU goalkeeper, Jonas Kolstad.
FAU took the lead for good when Marcus Henricsson netted the penalty kick at 56:30 to give the Owls the 2-1 advantage. At 77:05, it looked like USF (0-4) had tied the score, however the would-be goal was negated by an offsides call.
For the match, FAU was outshot 15-9. Kolstad finished with nine saves and has allowed just two goals in the past three matches.
FAU next will face Central Connecticut State Saturday afternoon at the Jacksonville University tournament.
