Florida Atlantic University women's basketball head coach Kellie Lewis-Jay finalized her 2015-16 staff with the addition of Richard Henderson as an assistant coach in July.
Henderson comes to FAU from Oklahoma State, where he held the same position for the last seven seasons.
Henderson's coaching duties at Oklahoma State included recruiting, film editing and breakdown as well as working with the Cowgirl guards on the floor. Additionally, he developed preseason and offseason individual skill improvement plans for members of the Oklahoma State backcourt and organized the program's male practice squad.
While working with the Cowgirls' backcourt, Henderson had a hand in the development of the program's first-ever WNBA Draft pick, All-American Andrea Riley. He also worked directly with the program's first Big 12 All-Defensive Team member and most recent draft pick Tiffany Bias, who currently plays for the Phoenix Mercury.
Henderson joined the Cowgirl program for the 2007-08 season as its graduate assistant where he oversaw film exchange and assisted with the creation and distribution of recruiting correspondence. In addition, he coordinated Oklahoma State's ball girl program, helped with team travel as well as with the daily administrative duties in the basketball office.
Prior to his move to the collegiate level, the Hartshorne, Okla. native worked as the Stillwater Public Schools junior high basketball coordinator while teaching physical education.
Henderson also served as the head basketball coach for the freshman squad and as an assistant coach for the varsity squad, as well. Henderson worked for the NFL's Buffalo Bills as an athletic training intern in 2005, and also has worked as a camp coach for the Eddie Sutton men's basketball camps.
Henderson graduated from Oklahoma State in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in education. Prior to his arrival in Stillwater, he earned his Associate of Science degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College in 2003 and has been honored with the school's Outstanding Young Alumnus award.
Henderson is father to daughter, Chloe, and son, Cooper.
