Chan Walker is in her 23rd year with the FAU softball program with two as a player and 21 as a coach. Walker was named Interim Head Coach in March 2022.
Walker was tabbed Interim Head Coach following the passing of Joan Joyce. Under Walker's leadership, FAU made its first Conference USA Championship Tournament appearance since 2018. The Owls were selected to finish last (12th) in the conference in the preseason poll, but under Walker's guidance, exceeded expectations and finished fifth. The Owls won 29 games, the most since the 2018 season as well. Walker coached Sara Berthiaume to First Team All-Conference honors, which marked the first first team selection for FAU in four years.
In August 2018, she was promoted to Associate Head Coach, as she has been an instrumental part of building the program as a player (1995-96) and assistant coach (1998-2001, 2006-2018). Her versatility and willingness to help anyone is a true asset to the FAU program and to any student-athlete who has the pleasure of working with her.
As a coach, Walker has helped the Owls to eight conference titles and seven NCAA tournament appearances, including back-to-back Regional appearances in 2015 and 2016. During her time at FAU, the Owls have tallied a record of 692-494-1.
Walker was there for FAU softball's beginning as a member of the inaugural 1995 team. Walker, who also played for the Owls in 1996, is still among the program's all-time leaders in career batting average (.304) and on-base percentage (.389). She is also a co-holder of the school record for career stolen base percentage (.955).
Upon graduation from FAU in December 1997, she quickly assumed the role of an assistant coach and took on more responsibilities each season. While at FAU, Walker also served as an assistant A-Sun Tournament Director in 1998 and assistant SID in 2000.
Walker took a four-year hiatus from the program starting in 2002, where she served as American Heritage High School's assistant coach. In her role, she ran clinics, camps and conducted private lessons. Additionally, Walker served as fellow FAU alumnus Amy Alderman's assistant coach at Lynn University from 2002-2004, while also working in public child care.
Her return to FAU and to college coaching brought back someone who is knowledgeable of collegiate athletics and the Owls' program. She has primarily focused on the hitters and outfielders, as well as the handling the responsibilities of equipment, travel and administrative tasks.Â
