Q: How excited were you for your first start, especially after you had to miss game one? A: Not playing in the season opener was one of the hardest things I have had to go through, but I was proud of the way my teammates fought for the win. I really just tried to treat my start as a normal game so I wouldn’t get to nervous or anxious, but around the time the game started it really hit me that I was finally making my first start.
Q:Take us through the interception at Marshall. Did you read the play right away and what was the team reaction on the sideline? A:  Coach [Lance] Guidry did a great job of preparing us and getting us ready for the play, we pointed the formation out and we knew that exact play was coming and the quarterback threw it where we expected. The team was extremely excited, all the coaches and players showing happiness for me was just awesome.Â
Q: Coach Taggart talks about your ability to quarterback the defense. What goes into making sure you are game ready? A: A lot of film study, making sure you know the tendencies of the offense so you can anticipate what they will run out of certain formations.Â
Q: What is your favorite thing about Jacksonville, your hometown? A: Definitely having both the river and the beach 10 minutes from my house. There are so many fun things too. Whenever I am home I love shark fishing with my friends.Â
Q: What is your most memorable moment as an Owl? A: Probably our first conference championship in 2017. To go from three wins the previous year to winning a championship was an awesome feeling.Â
Q: Where is Jordan Helm five years from now, 10 years from now? A: In my future, I see myself as a college football coach. My goal is to be a defensive coordinator at a Power 5 school.Â
Q: If you were to play any other sport in college, what would it be? A: Definitely baseball. Baseball was my first sport and I was probably a better baseball player than football player.Â
Q: What is the thing missed most during the country’s COVID shutdown? A: (For) me personally, is just spending time with family. It has been tough not seeing my grandparents, uncles, and cousins, but you just don’t want to risk anyone getting sick.Â
Q: If you were to play another position on the football field, what would it be and why? A: I would definitely want to play quarterback. I feel like I could read the defense and throw lasers to my receivers.Â
