Prior to FAU, Battle served a three-year stint at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration, where he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day internal operations for the department. His main areas of oversight were the business office and budget, facilities, game operations and scheduling, baseball and men's basketball. In his first two years at UNCG, he oversaw academics, compliance, student services, equipment and transportation, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and the 17 intercollegiate athletic teams.
Prior to his time at UNCG, Battle was the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance at Florida State University. This was his second stint at FSU, which began in 2006. During this time, he was responsible for the oversight of the compliance office, which included the coordinating, planning and organizing of all phases of the Seminoles' NCAA compliance program and ensuring adherence to the university, Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. In addition, he was the liaison to the general counsel, financial aid, admissions and registrar offices, as well as, the chair of the Financial Aid, Registrar, Compliance and Academic committee. From 2006 to 2008, he was the sport oversight for baseball and men's and women's tennis, and served in various capacities for numerous NCAA baseball and tennis tournaments held at Florida State.
Before returning to Florida State, Battle spent the 2005-06 academic year at Georgetown University as the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. During his tenure at Georgetown, he oversaw the day-to-day operations of the compliance office, was the certifying eligibility officer for the Hoyas' 700 student-athletes and the Department of Athletics' liaison to the financial aid and registrars offices, as well as the alumni and booster organizations. In addition, he was the primary administrator for the women's basketball, baseball, and track and field teams and a member of the Big East Cross Country Championships Committee.
Before his one-year hiatus at Georgetown, Battle was the Director of Compliance at Florida State from 2002-05. Prior to that, he served for as the Compliance Coordinator at Florida State from 1998-02. He began his career in intercollegiate athletics as a graduate assistant in the compliance office and as a student assistant in the sports information department at FSU.
Battle is a graduate of Alfred University (1991), where he majored in finance and political science, and where he was a member of the varsity basketball team and was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. He received his master's degree in sport administration from Florida State University (1996).
He  and his wife Holly, a UF alumna, have two children DJ (David James) and Abbi. Holly works in Human Resources at Kimley-Horn, an engineering, planning and design consulting firm, in West Palm Beach.
