BOCA RATON--- -
Athletes are busy both on and off the playing field at Florida Atlantic University. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), comprised of each team's respective captain, make lunches for Boca Helping Hands Day Care, at their bi-monthly meetings.
The group make an average of 62 sandwiches for the local day care children. The sandwiches are then delivered by the FAU students the following morning for the brown bag lunches.
"While the SAAC committee has met on campus for years, the student athletes are really just now making use of the opportunities it provides," said Ashley Bodily, a FAU volleyball player and the SAAC President. "The SAAC committee's main function is to assist the athletic department with meeting the needs of its student athletes, but, we wanted to do more. We wanted to reach out to the community that supports us. The lunches are just one of the many ways we hope to help the people of our community."
The committee has been volunteering in the community and is currently running a toy drive for the local fire department. If you would like to donate a toy you can drop it by the athletic department and receive a free FAU shirt.
