Oct. 26, 2001
BOCA RATON - Eric Newsome, FAU's Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs, will play with the Magic Johnson All Stars, November 2, in a historic game versus the Michigan State University Spartans.
The game will feature NBA legend Magic Johnson, in his return to his hometown of Lansing, MI, to play against his alma mater. The game, to be played in the Jack Breslin Students Event Center on the campus of MSU, has been sold out. More than 15,000 are expected.
Newsome, one of the leading scorers in the history of Miami Univeristy (OH), was selected for the game largely based upon his reputation in the midwest.
"Many college basketball fans, including myself, recall Eric's accomplishments while at Miami University," said Magic Johnson International Basketball Vice President, and event coordinator, Steve Haney. "Eric and Magic in the same backcourt will definitely provide the fans with some entertaining moments."
Newsome will join eight other ex-NBA and former collegiate stars, including FAU's Damon Arnette, on the Magic Johnson All Star roster. Arnette played at FAU from 1996-1999 and finished second in the program's history in points scored (1,246).
