Upcoming Event: Men's Golf versus American Conference Championship on April 27, 2026

Oct. 25, 2001
FAU Assistant Athetic Director for External Affairs, Eric Newsome, will play November 2, 2001 with the Magic Johnson All Stars in a historic game versus the Michigan State University Spartans. The game will feature NBA legend Magic Johnson's return to his hometown of Lansing, Michigan to play against his alma mater. The game, to be played in the Jack Breslin Students Event Center on the campus of MSU, is already a sellout with 15,000 fans expected.
Newsome, one of the leading scorers in the history of the University of Miami of Ohio, was selected for the game largely based upon his reputation in the Midwest. "Many college basketball fans, including myself, recall Eric's accomplishments while at Miami of Ohio," said Magic Johnson International Basketball Vice President, and event coordinator, Steve Haney, "Eric and Magic Johnson in the same backcourt will definitely provide the fans with some entertaining moments". Newsome will join 8 other ex NBA and former collegiate stars, including FAU's Damon Arnett, on the Magic Johnson All Stars roster.
