More than 6,000 economically disadvantaged South Florida kids under the age of 15 have tickets to attend Florida Atlantic University's first football game in Pro Player Stadium on Saturday, thanks to the generosity of three donors.
The young fans' benefactors, who wish to remain anonymous, are all members of the FAU Football Founders' Inner Circle, an elite group of major donors to the public university's new intercollegiate football program. Together, they purchased $30,000 worth of game tickets and distributed them to needy kids throughout South Florida through United Way agencies in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
"This is a fantastic gift to give to the children of the Florida Atlantic Territory," said FAU Head Football Coach Howard Schnellenberger. "The Big Bad Burly Birds are going to give them a game to remember."
