Howard Schnellenberger, Florida Atlantic University's Director of Football Operations and Head Coach, unveiled the official Inaugural Season Artwork, at a 3 pm, press conference today.
Schnellenberger, eager to unveil the magic stroke of sports artist Todd Dawes, made the announcement in between the first 2001 two-a-day practices, featuring incoming freshmen, where he and his staff intend to paint their magic. The magic of molding 68 freshmen, including 30 new freshmen into not only a team, but the familiar masterpiece Schnellenberger has become known for creating.
As the players reported for Wednesday's first practice, the ticket office prepared to mail tickets to the program's fist season ticket holders. The Inaugural Artwork will be featured on an Inaugural game ticket holder, distributed to all who attend the first game, and on an array of limited-edition collectible merchandise. It was created by Dawes in conjunction with FAU Football and Victory Promotions, Inc. The design incorporates tropical elements of South Florida and features Coach Schnellenberger, a fighting owl and Pro Player Stadium, FAU's home field.
Season ticket holders will receive a special commemorative ticket for the September 1st Inaugural Game featuring the custom artwork with their season ticket package. Included in each package will be a color brochure showcasing an assortment of official Inaugural Season commemorative products that are available for purchase. Season ticket packages are scheduled to be mailed out today.
"On behalf of FAU and President Anthony J. Catanese and the entire University, it is with great pleasure and pride that I am able to present the official artwork and season tickets for the Inaugural Season," Schnellenberger said. "It has been very rewarding to work with so many dedicated people to make this first season of football a reality. Renowned sports artist Todd Dawes was selected as the official artist for our 2001 season. Todd's artwork is featured on our season tickets as well as a series of limited edition products to commemorate this historic season. I hope that our season ticket holders will enjoy for years to come the Inaugural Game commemorative ticket, poster, media guide, game programs as well as the other pieces he has put together to symbolize what lies ahead."
Prior to his work with FAU, Dawes has provided commemorative artwork for a variety of local sports organizations and personalities: including the Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers, Florida Marlins, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Florida Beach Dogs, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, O.J. McDuffie and continues to function as the official artist for the Blockbuster/Carquest/Micron PC Bowl and the Ft. Lauderdale Air & Sea Show.
