Boca Raton - The celebration continues at Florida Atlantic University with four spring sports ranked among the nation's leaders. Softball leads the way at no. 11, baseball (22), men's tennis (53rd) and women's tennis (67th) are the next to add excitment on the FAU campus. Only nine other universities are common in each poll.
"This type of success is indicative of the high caliber of coaches and student-athletes representing FAU at the highest level of Division I athletics," said Athletic Director Tom Cargill.

Currently, the softball team has FAU's top ranking at 11th. The Owls earned the program's highest ranking last week at no. 10. FAU's record stands at 39-7 and the team is poised to defend the Atlantic Sun title which it has held since 1997.
Baseball moved up to 22nd in this week's "Collegiate Baseball Poll" and moved into both the "Baseball America Poll" and the "USA Today Poll" at 24 and 27, respectively. The team's record stands at 26-6 and are enjoying a 19 game win streak. The current longest in the country and 15 shy of its national record of 34 set in 1999. The team is 9-0 in A-Sun play and could earn head coach Kevin Cooney his 500th victory wearing the FAU colors, Friday at Belmont. Cooney's FAU record is 499-331-4 , in 15 season. His over-all record stands at 639-381-9.
Men's tennis has consistently been ranked among the countries leaders since mid-season 1999. This week the Owls fall in at 53rd and hold a 15-4 record for the season an are set to defend its conference title, the first such title captured by a male sport at FAU, April 18-21.
The women's tennis team is the newest FAU program to earn a spot on the national poll. The Lady Owls hold a 14-4 season record and just finished their home season with a perfect 12-0 mark. The women second at the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament in 2001 and are ready to challenge for the top-spot and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The A-Sun Championships are scheduled for April 18-21.
