Boca Raton - Florida Atlantic University's athletic department continues to turn national heads with a football program growing on a record pace and a no. 4 national finish in 2003. The baseball team is currently ranked among the nation's top 15 and the softball team is one of the winningest teams in the country with only six teams tallying more wins since 2000.
This success raises the bar to a new level for the Owl Athletics program. To continue pushing the envelope the athletic department must first be competitive in recruiting athletes to fulfill the University's goals. This takes scholarship dollars.
The first annual FAU Owl Club Auction --- "The Best Darn Sports Auction Period" will be held 6 - 8 pm, Thursday, April 1 at the Boca Raton Marriott.
The Auction kicks off the annual scholarship drive sponsored by the Athletic Booster Club.
"We have done an outstanding job of procuring items both for the silent and live auction," said Andy Russo, the Director of the Owl Club. "I think the people will be amazed at the things that will be available for bid."
In addition to sports memorabilia, vacations, game tickets, hotels, restaurants and summer sports camps that you may find at any sports auction, the "Best Darn Sports Auction Period" also has a sunset cocktail cruise on the Gallant Lady Moran Yacht, an authentic Pepsi Cola drink dispensing machine and a years supply of Pepsi products, a Ryder Cup Weekend, a flight in a private jet to and from Sunset Key and the guest cottage at Key West Harbor.
Tickets for the event, at a cost of $50, may be purchased by calling 561-297-0131. The auction is open to the general public.
