BOCA RATON -
Lisa Ciaravella has been named Florida Atlantic University's Head Women's Strength and Conditioning Coach, announced Dr. Dick Young, FAU's Interim Athletic Director.
"Lisa's experience, academic background and local knowledge will all contribute to her enhancement of the FAU Owl Athletics program," said Dr. Young. "We are fortunate to have her with us."
Ciavarella joins FAU's staff after a four-year stint with the now defunct Miami SOL, where she served as the Head Strength Coach and Assistant Athletic Trainer. Prior to the SOL, she served as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at Lynn University, which is where she first met Dr. Young. She as also worked with Cris Carter's FAST Program, IMG/Nick Bollettieri Sports Academy, in Elon University's Sports Medicine Department and her athletic training practicum was served with the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, FL.
Ciaravella holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine ('98), from Elon University and a Masters of Sports and athletic Administration from Lynn University '02. She also holds certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the National Athletic Training Association and the United States Weightlifting Association.
Ciaravella has trained a wide range of athletes. While working at the Cris Carter FAST Program, she worked with Carter, future NFL Hall of Famer; Randy Moss, 1998 NFL Rookie of the Year; Ciaravella's year with the SOL produced Sheri Sam and Elena Baranova, WNBA All-Stars; as well as Debbie Black, the 2001 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year.
Her ability to relate to the college athlete as well as the professional athlete is only accentuated by her athletic training knowledge, where she was asked to care and prevent injuries. In her FAU position, she will prevent injuries through proper strength and conditioning and will then be able to better assist the training room in rehabilitating injuries.
