On February 22, 2003, in association with the Osaka City Half-Marathon, Olympian Keith Brantly will travel to Osaka, Japan bringing with him his Olympic experience and spirit to encourage the youth and sporting community of Japan.
A competitor in the 1996 Olympic Marathon for the United States of America, Brantly will speak to several youth groups encouraging them to follow the ideals of fair play, drug-free participation, and lifelong physical fitness. On February 23rd, he will also participate with runners from around the world in a three-kilometer road race held in conjunction with the Osaka City Half-Marathon that features 3,000 competitors. Traveling as an ambassador for the World Olympians Association, Brantly will also meet with city and sports officials of Osaka to thank them for their commitment to the Olympic movement and support of the World Olympians Association's Asia-Oceania Regional office.
"Keith's Olympic experience and outgoing personality serve to make him a natural emissary for this event," said Dr. Liston Bochette, Secretary General of the World Olympians Association.
"I am honored that the World Olympians Association has chosen me to represent all Olympians for this wonderful event," says Brantly. "Olympians have an obligation to carry the Olympic creed and spirit to the 'world community.'"

About Keith Brantly: With a running career that has spanned nearly three decades, 15 years as a professional runner, Keith is considered by many experts to be one of the United States' most successful distance runners of the 1980's and 1990's. At distances from the mile to the marathon, Keith has enjoyed successes in national and international competitions. His accomplishments include:
1996 United States Olympic Team Member, Marathon.
2000, 1996, 1992, 1988, 1984 U.S. Olympic Trials Participant for 5K, 10K and marathon.
12 time member of United States National track, road racing and cross-country teams.
7 time United States National Roadracing Champion.
*Lifetime personal bests of 2 hours 12 minutes for the marathon, 28 minutes for 10 Kilometers, 13 minutes and 36 seconds for 5 Kilometers.
Keith conducts motivational and informational seminars for corporations and special interest groups on topics related to physical fitness and success modeling. He especially enjoys speaking to children and young adults, encouraging their involvement in sports and recreational activities. In 2001, Keith raised nearly $20,000 for charities devoted to the research of Attention Deficit Disorder. He appeared on the Oprah Show, June 2000, and is featured in National Geographic Magazine's September 2000 issue.
Currently, Keith serves as the Coordinator for Advancement of Athletics at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. He has two children: son Thor (7), and daughter, Ace (5).
