NASHVILLE, TN - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's basketball teams will take on Belmont University as part of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Nashville, TN. The first game features the women's match-up and tips at 3:00pm EST at the Curb Event Center. The men's game will follow. Both games will be carried on WLVJ 1040-AM and www.fausports.com.
For the FAU women, it will be their first game since January 31. FAU enters the game 5-13 overall and 4-7 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lady Owls had their two-game winning streak snapped in their last outing when Lipscomb won 70-63 at FAU Gymnasium. Trineca McCleod leads FAU with 15.6ppg and 6.8rpg. She is third in the A-Sun in scoring and first in field goal percentage (.579). Shontavia Williams is averaging 11.3ppg.
Belmont brings in a 9-9 record and a 7-4 mark in the A-Sun. The Bruins are coming off a 68-66 overtime victory over Lipscomb on Wednesday. The win snappped a three-game losing streak. Brandi Miller leads the team with 15.1 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Hollie Davis is averaging 12.8. Belmont has won five of its past six games at home. Belmont is second to FAU in the A-Sun with 66.7 points per game and leads the conference with 8.4 treys per game.
This is the fifth meeting between the two teams. FAU holds a 3-1 series edge and has won the past two games, including a 74-64 win on January 29 at FAU Gymnasium. The Lady Owls are 1-1 at Belmont but have never played at the Curb Event Center.
On the men's side, FAU will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak. The Owls come in 8-12 overall and 5-8 in the A-Sun. They are coming off a 75-67 setback Thursday night at Lipscomb. In that game, Mike Bell returned to the lineup and posted 20 points and 10 rebounds. Bell leads FAU with 19.4 points and 8.5 rebounds per game and is second in the conference in both categories.
Belmont enters the game 15-5 overall and 10-3 in the A-Sun. The Bruins have won six straight games and are coming off a 77-61 win over A-Sun leading UCF Thursday night at home. Steve Drabyn led four Bruins in double-figures with 20 points. Adam Mark leads the team and the A-Sun with 20.6 points per game. Drabyn is adding 13.5ppg. Belmont averages 27.3 three-point field goal attempts per game.
This is the fifth meeting between the Owls and Bruins in a series that started in the 2001-02 season. Each team has won twice with Belmont winning the last outing, 71-68, January 17 in Boca Raton. Belmont has won the past two meetings.
