Upcoming Event: Men's Golf versus American Conference Championship on April 27, 2026

Feb. 2, 2001
The Broward Sheriff's Office and Florida Atlantic University are teaming up to provide graduate students with an unprecedented opportunity to see their hard work and research put into action. Believed to be the first of its kind, the partnership pairs America's largest fully accredited sheriff's office with the nation's fastest growing university.
Under a new 5-year contract, FAU will annually provide BSO with four doctoral students and an advisor who will conduct applied research to help enhance the administrative, support, and law enforcement operations of the Sheriff's Office. The students will be lending their experience and expertise in the areas of information technology, juvenile justice, crime mapping, corrections, and law enforcement. The new in-house "Think Tank" will help BSO develop new crime fighting tools and techniques while creating groundbreaking programs, which will help BSO better serve the community. They will be selected based on their specializations and the agency's needs.
In addition to the doctoral students, FAU will be offering the Sheriff's Office a bright group of public service oriented interns who will work throughout the agency. Intended to be a recruiting and education tool, Sheriff Jenne hopes to encourage the interns to join the BSO ranks. Many of them will be selected from the university's athletic programs.
Wednesday's contract signing will include Broward Sheriff Ken Jenne, FAU President Anthony James Catanese, Vice President for Broward Campuses Mary McBride, College of Architecture, Urban and Public Affairs Dean Rosalyn Carter, Dr. Gordon Bazemore of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, FAU Football Coach Howard Schnellenberger, and FAU Senior Women's Athletics Administrator Joan Joyce.
