Athletes Excel in the Classroom

BOCA RATON - Florida Atlantic University's athletics program has been competing on the NCAA Division I level for less than 10 years and is one of the youngest to sponsor intercollegiate football, with a program in its second year of existence. The Owls have touted rapid growth as one of the countries fastest growing universities. FAU finished 87th in the National All-Sports race, among 324 plus Division I colleges and continues to climb the national ranks academically.

More than 410 students participate on one of FAU's 18 intercollegiate sponsored sports, but many do not choose the university strictly for athletic endeavors. It is a combination of the university's curriculum, climate, athletic coaching staffs, as well as the faculty, and the opportunity matriculate towards their career goals.

The total number of student athletes choosing to seek higher education at FAU increases each year. While the numbers rise, the watermark also continues to be reset. The 2002 Fall semester saw 123 student-athletes post a 3.0+ g.p.a., seven earned a 4.0 g.p.a. and earned a spot on the President's Honor List. 20 were named to the Dean's list.
