BOCA RATON, Fla.- Florida Atlantic's men's basketball guards
Josiah Parker and
Kanaan Carlyle were named the American Conference Freshman of the Week and honorable mention, respectively, announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Parker earns his league-high seventh Freshman of the Week award for the season, his third straight. He helped the Owls go 2-0 on the week after hitting a driving layup with .6 seconds on the clock in overtime to claim the win 77-76 against Charlotte on Sunday afternoon. The Ohio native led the Owls in rebounds in the week with 20 boards, 11 in the win against Temple, and nine against Charlotte. Parker also totaled 19 points, a block, and two assists. He flirted with a double-double in both games this week, just shy by one rebound against the 49ers and a point against the Owls of Temple. In the last five games, he has led the team with 53 rebounds.
The junior guard Carlyle claims his second honorable mention this season with a total of 41 points on the week, leading the team to clinching a spot in the American Conference tournament. He averaged 20.5 points per game, going 7-19 from beyond the arc. Carlyle is the only Owl with 500+ career points, totaling 721. Thus far, with a total of 356 points, he has set his career-high for a season.
