ORLANDO Fla. – After winning the ASUN Conference Championship Florida Atlantic men's swimming & diving's
Daniel Laureyssens and
Rocco Simonelli have earned ASUN post championship awards for their performances in last weekend.
Laureyssens, who was announced by the conference as ASUN Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer, had a historic weekend for the Owls. Across the four-day meet he left with three individual gold medals and punched his ticket to the NCAA Championship meet in two different events. He is the first FAU male swimmer since 2006 to qualify. After this weekend, he is now the program record holder in the 50, 100, 200 free, and 100 fly.
Simonelli received the honor of ASUN Most Outstanding Diver. It is the second-straight year an FAU diver has won the award. He left the weekend with medals from all three diving events. On the 3mtr, he became a conference champion after totaling a score of 368.90. He carried that momentum into the 1mtr dive finishing with a silver medal, scoring 296.25. Simonelli's third medal came from the platform dive where he earned bronze, scoring 268.20.
ON DECK
The 2025-26 season will continue with postseason competitions in the coming weeks. Owl divers who qualify are set for the Diving B Zone Championships taking place from Mar. 9 through Mar. 14. Select Owls will then compete in the National Invitational Championships, held in Ocala, Florida Thursday, Mar. 12 – Saturday, Mar. 14 at the FAST facility. Laureyssens will represent the Owls at the 2026 NCAA Men's Championships scheduled for Mar. 26 – 29, in two events.
