GREENSBORO N.C./ORLANDO Fla. – The Florida Atlantic men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued its success on day three of conference championship action.
Friday's competition finished with FAU collecting three new school records, four podium finishes, and one conference championship event winner.
QUICK HITS
Women
- Night three opened with the 800 free relay with the Owls finishing in seventh with a time of 7:21.93, just shy of the program record.
- Megan Drover-Smith stepped up in a big way for FAU, finishing fourth in the 100 back "A" final, setting a new program record, swimming 54.12.
- The 100 breast saw three Owls in the "A" final with Maja Piotrowicz highlighting the event with a bronze medal (1:01.11).
- Bilú Bianchi and Nula Gow were the other two "A" finalist swimmers finishing fifth and sixth.
- Grace Powell qualified for the 3mtr "B" final, totaling a score of 259.90 in the finals.
- Bella Answeeney qualified for the 200 fly "A" final swimming 2:02.23.
Men
- The highlight of night three started from the jump when the team of Daniel Laureyssens, Simon Wright, Rush Clark, and James Shevchenko won the gold and swam to a program record time of 6:24.30.
- Wright, in the 100 back "A" final, broke the freshman record, finishing in eight place with a time of 48.99.
- Graduate student Taylor Eaton swam in the "B" final, finishing in 12th (49.66).
- Jayden Repak and Noah Reeves represented FAU in the 100 breast, placing fifth and sixth, with Reeves breaking his own freshman record.
- Rocco Simonelli medaled on the 1mtr diving earning a silver medal.
- Shevchenko closed out the third day of competition in the 200 fly, earning the bronze medal in a time of 1:46.63
ON DECK
The Owls will be back on Saturday for the fourth and final day of competition with the ASUN championships beginning with prelims at 10 a.m., finals at 6 p.m. and the American championship prelims starting at 10:30 a.m., with finals beginning at 6 p.m. as well. Both meets will air on ESPN+.
