BOCA RATON, Fla. – Former Florida Atlantic women's basketball player, 2019 Florida Atlantic Athletics Hall of Famer, and 2023 Florida Atlantic Alumni Hall of Famer Brittany Bowe (2006-10) qualified and will make her fourth appearance next month at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The 2026 Olympics will begin on Feb. 6 and run through the closing ceremony on Feb. 22. The Opening Ceremony will take place at 2:30 PM EST at San Siro Stadium in the host city of Milan, Italy.
Bowe, who will be competing in her fourth consecutive Winter Olympics, punched her ticket once again in speed skating, earning a spot in both the 1,000-meter and 1,500-meter events. After not automatically qualifying for the 1,000-meter with a second-place finish and time of 1:15.02, the U.S. Speed Skating Team announced shortly after that Bowe would take the second U.S. berth in the 1,000m event. One day after booking her ticket to her fourth Olympic Games in the 1,000m, Bowe won the 1,500m race, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 55.03 seconds.
Bowe was inducted into the Florida Atlantic Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2019, in addition to being inducted more recently into the Florida Atlantic Alumni Hall of Fame in the Class of 2023.
Bowe's Showing at Previous Olympic Games
- At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Bowe earned her second bronze medal after finishing third in the speedskating 1,000m. She was honored as one of the two flag bearers for Team USA during the Beijing opening ceremonies.
- In her second Olympics in 2018, Bowe came home from PyeongChang with a bronze medal in Team Pursuit, which was Team USA's only medal in a speedskating event. Bowe also just missed the podium in each of her individual events after capturing fourth in the 1000m and fifth in the 500m and 1500m.
- At the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, Bowe's first Olympics, she tallied sixth in Team Pursuit, eighth in the 1000m, 13th in the 500m, and 14th in the 1500m.
Bowe's Time at Florida Atlantic
- Bowe played at Florida Atlantic from 2006-10 and was the everyday starter at point guard during her last three seasons.
- As a senior, Bowe started in all 29 games, averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. She was also named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Third Team.
- Bow is one of nine to belong in the 1,000-point club at FAU.
- FAU career standings: third in free throw makes (273), fourth in assists (377), fourth in minutes played (3,176), and eighth in steals (172)
