BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic Athletics is proud to announce another transformative gift from long-time donors Michelle and Michael Hagerty, who have pledged $2 million in support of women's scholarships and the Competitive Excellence Fund.
Making their first gift to athletics in 2021, the Hagerty Family has donated more than $12 million over the last five years.
"Florida Atlantic's student-athletes continue to achieve remarkable success both in the classroom and in competition, made possible by the generous support of dedicated friends like Michelle and Michael Hagerty," said Piero Bussani, chair of the FAU Board of Trustees. "On behalf of the Board, thank you, Michelle and Michael, for your ongoing commitment to athletic excellence and student success at Florida Atlantic."
"Michelle and Michael Hagerty are building a legacy that continues to elevate Florida Atlantic's athletics programs," said FAU President Adam Hasner. "We truly appreciate this generous gift and the opportunities it will create for our female student-athletes on and off the field. The Hagertys' high level of personal engagement and unwavering support for their Hometown University are helping us win here in Paradise and on the national stage."
The Hagertys' initial gift to athletics named the head football coach position, now known as the Hagerty Family Head Football Coach. The couple followed in 2022 with a transformative gift of $5 million towards the creation of the Hagerty Family Athletics Village, with another significant donation from the couple being announced last December for the same project.
"Michelle and Michael Hagerty continue to make a generational impact on the Hometown Team," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White. "We are all so grateful for their support of our mission and we thank them sincerely for another incredibly generous gift. Championing women's sports has always been paramount to Michelle and Michael, and the power of this gift will be felt for many years to come."
In addition to their philanthropic support of athletics, Michelle and Michael have backed other essential projects for athletics, along with generously supporting the department's NIL initiatives.
"My support for Florida Atlantic Athletics is rooted in the belief that opportunity in sport changes lives," said Michelle. "By investing in scholarships and competitive excellence, this support opens doors for students to pursue their goals academically, compete for championships, and succeed at the highest levels."
Florida Atlantic Athletics established the Competitive Excellence Fund last year to serve as the driving force behind the mission of creating a brighter future for FAU through student-athlete success.
"We are deeply appreciative of Michelle and Michael's generosity and continued belief in FAU Athletics," said Senior Associate AD for Revenue Generation Alvin Hines. "It has been a privilege to work alongside them, and this gift reflects their commitment to empowering our student-athletes to thrive academically and competitively while representing the university with excellence."
The Competitive Excellence Fund allows Florida Atlantic to provide a premier student-athlete experience where the Owls can compete at the highest level and win championships. Additionally, it lets FAU Athletics be strategic in directing the funds to address the department's priorities of greatest need.
