BOCA RATON, Fla. – Shelly Bereznyak will join the Florida Atlantic women's tennis team as a graduate assistant this fall.

Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis. "Not only has she played at the highest level of college tennis, but more importantly, I am impressed with her professionalism off the court. Her experience will be very valuable to our coaching staff and players. I am pumped to share the court with her, and I have no doubt that Shelly will make an immediate impact with this group."
Bereznyak, a native of Bat Yam, Israel, will come to the Owls after a four-year playing career at No. 6 Ohio State where she tallied an 83-30 singles record, including a 55-12 dual match record, but most impressively she was 21-1 in Big Ten matches. In doubles play, Bereznyak concluded her collegiate career with a record of 30-35, including a 16-11 dual doubles record. Her personal best ranking was No. 71, achieved in the fall of 2024. Also, among Bereznyak's athletic accolades is a selection to the Big Ten All-Tournament team.
Her collegiate accolades include being named CSC Academic All-District in 2023, '24 and '25 and she was named as an ITA Scholar Athlete in 2022, '23, and '24 ('25 has not been announced). Bereznyak earned 2023 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors and was a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete while earning an accounting degree in 2025.
Prior to OSU, she climbed as high as No. 790 in singles and No. 650 in the doubles WTA rankings. She won three ITF singles titles, was the 2019 Israeli National Champion and played for Israeli Fed Cup in 2020.
The Owls, who finished the 2024-25 campaign with the program best ranking at No. 27, are set to return four of their six singles courts as well as the doubles duo of
Lara Smejkal and
Malwina Rowinska, who finished the 2025 campaign ranked No. 55.
