BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic sophomore
NaShawn Tyson has been named the American Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced on Thursday. This is the first conference honor for the Stuart, Florida native.
Tyson played a key role in the Owls' team victory at the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate in Estero, Fla. on April 8. He finished in solo second place after three consecutive rounds of 71 (-3). The Owls finished at +4 as a team to edge out tournament host Florida Gulf Coast by three shots.
In his previous start, Tyson won the UNCW Seahawk Intercollegiate by seven shots. The sophomore leads the Owls with a 71.61 tournament scoring average heading into next week's American Athletic Conference Championship. At No. 155 in the official
Clippd Division I rankings, Tyson has climbed 374 spots from where he was before his victory in North Carolina.
The AAC Championship begins on Monday, April 21, at the Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Sarasota, Florida.
