BOCA RATON, Fla. – The No. 29 Florida Atlantic women's tennis team picked up a 4-0 win over South Florida on Sunday morning.
The win was the third of the week and included two versus American Athletic Conference members. FAU's record now stands at 9-0, which is two away from the program's best 11-0 start in 2024.
The court two doubles duo of
Victoria Gomez O'Hayona / Mille-Mae Matthews led the way by securing their court by a 6-2 score, which gave the undefeated 9-0 duo of
Malwina Rowinska /
Lara Smejkal an opportunity to clinch the doubles point for the Owls.
Needing just three singles victories to take the match, the Owls began to work battling gusts of wind ranging between 30 and 40 mph as much as their USF opponents. Rowinska was the first to add to the team's score with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court four. Senior
Lexi Silna disposed of her court five opponent by a 6-1, 6-1 score to put FAU up 3-0, while sophomore
Panna Bartha clinched the match by taking court two for the 4-0 final.
Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's Director of Tennis
"Today was a solid performance from our team. Conditions were very tough with the wind, and while the tennis wasn't pretty, we played smart for the most part."
