BOCA RATON, Fla. – Ahead of its first game in the American Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 13, the Florida Atlantic men's basketball team racked up a series of AAC season awards, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Three Owls were named to the All-AAC second team, with
Tre Carroll,
Kaleb Glenn, and
Baba Miller earning the honors. Carroll was also named as one of the two conference's most improved players and was the recipient of the Amir Abdur-Rahim Sportsmanship Award. Additionally,
Matas Vokietaitis was named the AAC Freshman of the Year and named to the all-freshman team.
Following a breakout year, Carroll was named the most improved player in addition to earning a spot on the All-AAC second team. The redshirt junior averaged career-bests in almost every statistical category, most notably improving in points per game from 4.0 to 12.2 and rebounds from 1.8 to 5.5.
The Amir Abdur-Rahim Sportsmanship Award is a conference honor in memory of the late head coach for South Florida. As one of the two remaining players from the 2023 Final Four run, Carroll took on a key role both on and off the court to help usher in FAU's rebuild.
Glenn and Miller both served as highly impactful players in their first seasons as an Owl. The sophomore forward Glenn led the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game, while the junior forward Miller averaged 11.2 while adding 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks, the latter of which is tied for second in the conference. He also had a team-high six double-doubles on the season and was the only player on the team to have recorded double-digit points, rebounds, and/or assists in a game.
Vokietaitis won a conference-high six Freshman of the Week awards and was the Owls' starting center in 17 games. The Lithuanian native averaged 9.5 points per game on a team-best 65.8% shooting from the field to go with 5.3 rebounds.
As the AAC tournament's No. 5 seed, Florida Atlantic will take on the winner of the play-in game between No. 12 Rice and No. 13 Charlotte on Thursday, 2:30 p.m. EST, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
