Sandy Owls Jump Up to No. 12 Nationally

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic Sandy Owls jumped up four spots to No. 12 in the week one AVCA Beach Volleyball Coaches Poll rankings. The move marked the second-largest advancement by a team so far this season.
The Sandy Owls are off to an impressive start, finishing their season-opening weekend unbeaten at 4-0 and earned three top-20 wins over No. 14 Washington, No. 17 FIU, and No. 13 Georgia State.
Ashleigh Adams and Marketa Svozilova led the way for the Owls at a perfect 4-0, including four straight-set sweeps, and securing three top-20 wins. Kate McLaughlin and Kendall Mignerey finished the weekend 3-1, earning a pair of ranked wins against No. 14 Washington and No. 17 FIU. Julie Honzovicova and Klaire VanDeusen and Shantel Starling and Sydney Schroder both finished 2-2. Honzovicova and VanDeusen earned ranked wins over No. 17 FIU and were the match-clinching point against No. 13 Georgia State, while Starling and Schroder earned a ranked win over No. 14 Washington, and Olivia Strandberg and Shayna Wolf finished the weekend 1-0 with a win over No. 13 Georgia State.
