BOCA RATON, Fla. – After helping lead Florida Atlantic volleyball to a 3-0 weekend in the Owls Paradise Classic, earning a five-set win over Illinois State and a pair of four-set victories against Mercer and Stetson, three Owls earned weekly American Athletic Conference honors.
Victoria Hensley was named AAC Setter of the Week,
Natalie Depaula earned AAC Freshman of the Week, and
Madison Dyer was named AAC Weekly Honorable Mention.
The honors mark the first career AAC Player of the Week honors for Hensley and Depaula and the first AAC weekly honorable mention honor for Dyer.
Hensley had a phenomenal week, powering the Owls to an unbeaten 3-0 record in the Owls Paradise Classic. She dished out a team-leading 139 assists, averaging 10.69 assists per set, along with 29 digs, seven blocks, six kills, and an ace over the three matches this weekend. Hensley opened the week with her fourth double-double of the season, dishing out 49 assists and tallying 14 digs, in addition to recording a pair of blocks in the win over Illinois State. On Friday evening, Hensley dished out 39 assists and narrowly missed another double-double with nine digs, two blocks, and an ace against Mercer. She then finished the week with 51 assists, six digs, four kills, and three blocks in the Owls' weekend finale win over Stetson.
Depaula had a phenomenal week for the Owls, tallying 31 kills and hitting .275, in addition to adding a team third-best 13 blocks and eight digs over the Owls' trio of wins. Depaula opened the week with 11 kills, five digs, and a pair of blocks against Illinois State. She then followed that up with eight kills, a career-high seven blocks, and a dig in the Owls' win over Mercer. On Saturday, Depaula closed out the week with 12 kills, hitting an impressive .450, and added four blocks and a pair of digs in the Owls' win over Stetson.
Dyer was an offensive and defensive force for Florida Atlantic during the Owls Paradise Classic. She registered 31 kills, hitting a strong .258, while also tallying a team second-best 14 blocks, adding 10 digs and a pair of service aces. Against Illinois State, Dyer posted a team-leading 14 kills, hitting .321, adding four digs, two blocks, and an ace. On Friday evening, Dyer posted a team-leading six blocks, in addition to six kills and three digs in the win over Mercer. She then closed out the week with 11 kills, hitting .273, in addition to adding six blocks, three digs, and an ace in the four-set win against Stetson.
The Owls now set their sights on American Athletic Conference play as they get set to host the East Carolina Pirates on Friday, Sept. 27 in their AAC opener. First serve is set for 6 p.m. inside the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena and will air on ESPN+.
