BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic volleyball closed out the regular season on Sunday, earning a dominant four-set win, 3-1 (25-13, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18) over the Tulane Green Wave on Senior Day at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
The Owls close out the regular season at 16-12 overall and 8-8 in AAC play, while Tulane falls to 14-14 on the season and 6-10 in conference play.
Florida Atlantic opened the match on a 13-4 run to take the early lead. The Green Wave got two back, but the Owls maintained their momentum, outscoring Tulane 5-2 to eventually extend their lead to 10, 18-8, and spark Tulane's second timeout of the set. Back-to-back kills from
Katelynn Robine pushed the Owls' lead to 12, 20-8. Tulane cut the deficit to 11, 22-11, but it was too little too late as the Owls eventually took the opening frame 25-13 to take the opening lead, 1-0.
Tulane came out hot to open the second, producing a set-opening 8-3 run to make the Owls call their first timeout. The Green Wave extended their lead to five, 13-8, before going on a 5-2 run to cut the deficit to two, 15-13. The Owls continued to battle back and forth, eventually tying the set up at 21, following a Robine kill, but Tulane closed the set on a 4-1 run to take the second 25-22 and even up the match at one, 1-1.
Florida Atlantic scored four unanswered points to open the third, continuing their run to lead 9-3 as Tulane called a timeout. The Owls continued to pressure the Green Wave, outscoring Tulane 9-8, capped off by a
Madison Dyer kill, to force another Green Wave timeout, 18-11. The timeout couldn't stifle the Owls' offensive success as they closed the frame on a 7-2 run to seal the 25-13 win in the third and push the Owls back in front, 2-1.
The Green Wave took the early lead in the fourth, opening the set on a 5-2 run. The Owls wouldn't go away, slowly battling back into the set to close the deficit to one, 13-12, as the Green Wave called their first timeout of the fourth.
Valeria Rosado tied things up at 13. The Green Wave retook the lead off a kill, 14-13, but the Owls answered back scoring four unanswered to take the lead 17-14 as the Green Wave called their second and final timeout of set four. Florida Atlantic continued their run, outscoring Tulane 5-2 to lead 22-16. The Green Wave got two back, but the Owls closed the match on a 3-0 run as Robine closed out the match, 25-18, sealing the four-set win, 3-1.
- Three seniors in Valeria Rosado, Katelynn Robine, and Kaila Ru led the Owls offensively on senior day, all recording double figures.
- Rosado recorded her 11th double-double of the season, posting a match-high 16 kills and adding 17 digs.
- Katelynn Robine tallied 12 kills, while Ru rounded out the Owls' double-figure scorers with 10 kills. Ru also hit an impressive .400 clip in the win.
- Victoria Hensley dished out a match-leading 45 assists and surpassed 3,000 career assists with her 27th of the day in the third set.
- Senior Romina Cornelio also had a fantastic day, recording a team-leading 22 digs, while also adding seven kills and four assists.
- Ru and Dyer tied for a team-high four blocks in the win.
Florida Atlantic now sets its sights on the American Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend as the Owls enter postseason play as the No. 6-seed and will face the No. 3 East Carolina Pirates on Friday, Nov. 22. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET in Wichita, Kansas and on ESPN+.
