Gomez O’Hayon Represents the Owls at the Championship

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Tennis in the fall of 2024 had a new wrinkle, and redshirt junior Victoria Gomez O'Hayon from Florida Atlantic was in the thick of the change. Gomez O'Hayon's impressive play this fall earned her an invite to the first ITA Sectional Championship.

This fall, the NCAA sponsored an individual championship, and the road to becoming a NCAA Individual Champion ran through a conference championship. In the case of Gomez O'Hayon, the Estepona, Spain native earned the top seed at the American Athletic Conference Championship. Unfortunately, due to weather, the AAC Championship was played on the heels of the ITA Southeast Regional, where Gomez O'Hayon advanced to the final day of play and immediately traveled across the country to the league championship.

Despite an unexpected early exit at the AAC, Gomez O'Hayon was invited to the ITA Sectional Championship hosted by Georgia on Nov. 7-10. She fell to Georgia's Sofia Rojas in the first round by a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 score. She was forced to withdraw from her second-round match, which was recorded as a walkover, giving Cincinnati's Zeynep Erman the win.
