BOCA RATON, Fla. – After a tremendous ITA Southeast Regional Championship, redshirt junior Victoria Gomez O'Hayon of the Florida Atlantic women's tennis team secured the singles' No. 1 seed at the first American Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championship. The Owls also have the No. 1 doubles seed in the tandem of Millie-Mae Matthews and newcomer Malwina Rowinska.
Gomez O'Hayon marched through to the semifinal of the ITA event last weekend, finishing the tournament fourth overall.
The AAC Individual Championships will be conducted for the first time in 2024 as the conference determines women's champions in singles and doubles. The singles and doubles champions will represent the AAC at the ITA Conference Masters Championships Nov. 7-10 in Rome, Georgia.
Two singles players and one doubles tandem from each of the 13 women's AAC teams will compete for the individual titles.
First round play-in singles and doubles begins Thursday, Oct. 24, while the Round of 16 in singles concludes Thursday afternoon. The quarterfinals in singles and doubles will be played on Friday, Oct. 25, followed by Saturday's semifinals and Sunday's championship finals.
Consolation brackets in men's and women's singles will also be played, allowing each student-athlete to play at least two matches.
