BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic men's soccer earned its first conference win of the season on Friday night – a 1-0 triumph over Memphis. FAU held the Tigers without a shot on goal to come up with their second clean sheet of the season.
In a showdown of two sides committed to defending, there was very little space to operate for the offenses. Both teams had three shot attempts in the first half. The Owls had the only one on target – a header off a corner kick that was comfortably saved.
It did not open up in the slightest after halftime either. The breakthrough finally came in the 86th minute off an all-world cross from
Leo Keller.
Noah Kvifte found inside position in the six-yard box and headed it home to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. FAU would hold on for the final four minutes to improve to 1-2 in the American. Memphis fell to 0-3.
The Owls will look to keep the momentum going on Wednesday night in Philadelphia when they take on Temple at 7 p.m.
