BOCA RATON, Fla. – The accolades keep piling on for
Dusty May, head coach of the Florida Atlantic University's men's basketball team.
May, who has led Florida Atlantic to the Final Four for the first time in school history, has been named the CBS Sports College Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2022-23 season, as
officially announced on Thursday morning.
In his fifth season as head coach, May took the Owls to heights previously never thought possible, including the most wins in the entire nation (35), the team's first ever Conference USA title, and their first ever NCAA tournament victory, let alone advancing all the way to the Final Four where they are now two wins away from becoming national champions. May also achieved his 100th career victory this season, all with Florida Atlantic, in the Sweet Sixteen victory over Tennessee.
This adds another award to May's growing collection from this season that already features the Conference USA Coach of the Year and NABC All-District 17 Coach of the Year. May was also a semifinalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year, the highest coaching honor in college basketball.
May is currently preparing the Florida Atlantic Owls for their Final Four matchup against San Diego State. Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday at 6:09 p.m. EST at Houston's NRG Stadium, to be broadcasted nationally on CBS.
