FORT MYERS, Fla. – Five games over the span of the next three days are on the docket for the Florida Atlantic University softball team. The Owls will compete in the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational from Feb. 17-19.
- The Owls enter the second weekend of action in the 2023 season with a 3-2 record after picking up wins over Stony Brook, Iowa and Bethune-Cookman last weekend in the Paradise Invitational
- FAU first thumped Stony Brook, 10-2 in five innings behind an offensive onslaught with 13 hits, seven of them going for extra bases
- The Owls then captured an exciting 4-3 extra-inning victory over Iowa on Saturday. Olivia Peterson tied the game 3-3 in the eighth inning, then Riley Ennis provided the walk-off base hit in the ninth
- FAU rounded out the weekend with a 5-3 win over Bethune-Cookman, with the go-ahead run scored in the fifth by Sara Berthiaume on a wild pitch and the insurance run in the sixth with a Berthiaume RBI
- Riley Olson was on a tear at the plate, going an even .500 (6-for-12) with two doubles, a home run and three RBI
- Jesiana Mora was strong in her first weekend of collegiate softball. The freshman infielder hit .375 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI
- Berthiaume picked up right where she left off after last season, hitting to a .412 average at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBI
- Two other Owl bats were over .300 in the opening weekend in Peterson (.364) and Zoey Jones (.333)
- Gabby Sacco pitched to a 1.75 ERA in eight innings of work
- Lynn Gardner tossed 15 innings and posted a 2.33 ERA
