BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University head softball coach
Jordan Clark announced the Owls' 2024 signing class on Wednesday afternoon.
"This class is going to be something special for Owl fans to watch and get to know. We have eight amazing young women who are confident in who they are and where they want to spend the next four years. As a coaching staff, this group blindly trusted us without seeing our full vision play out on the field. I know we recruited not only amazing softball players but uniquely authentic women who are going to not only win championships on the field but in the classroom and community. This class brings power, speed, athleticism, and passion. I knew with this class we had a vision of what type of athletes we wanted and what our team needs were. We feel like we have eight girls who can play various roles if needed. We feel like we got the best of the best in this class and it's always rewarding when others recognize that as well. We have several in the top 100 rankings for being the best at their positions. The future is bright with the recruiting we have been able to do and will continue growing because these eight have been promoting that Paradise is the place to play! "
Camrynn Gutherie - Catcher/OF, Burnet, Texas., Burnet High School
"Camrynn is a dynamic offensive threat that swings it from the left side. She understands her movement patterns and loves to develop her craft while working with her dad and hitting coach. She is competitive and plays on one of the best travel teams in the country. We expect Camrynn to hit a lot of bombs over palms in Paradise. She was the first one in this class to say yes and trusting our vision as a staff was something very special to us. We know that she wants to win championships and coming from Texas shows how serious her decision was to play for FAU."
The versatile Gutherie was named 18U First Team Texas State Champions this past summer. She was also selected for the TGCA All-Star game as a catcher.
Bella Foran - OF, Hoover, Ala., Hoover High School
"Bella is an elite-level athlete who comes from an extremely competitive family. She is a true triple-threat outfielder that brings speed but also power. From the first time watching Bella play I knew we had to have her. She trusted us in the recruiting process and the sky is the limit for her. She will be a fun one for Owls fans to watch over her career. She was highly sought after in her recruiting process, while trusting her faith and taking multiple visits she made us extremely happy when she picked Paradise."
Thanks to her hitting skills, Foran earned First Team All-Metro honors after hitting .471 and was ranked as a Top 15 player in the 2024 Extra Elite 100.
Emilie Ching - INF, Windermere, Fla., Windermere High School
"Emilie is quiet in nature off the field but turns into a calm confident leader when she steps on the field. I watched Emilie play for the first time in Colorado and appreciated how she approached the game from communication with her teammates to keeping her routine every at bat. She can play multiple infield positions with her primary home at shortstop. She is a coach's dream, and I couldn't be more excited because she chose the Owls and wants to make history in Paradise. When out recruiting, whether it's a flashy defensive play or a big-time home run, Emilie definitely catches people's eyes. Fun fact: she is our only right-handed hitter in this class."
Ching plays shortstop at Windermere High School. As a junior, she hit over .500 for the season and led the team in home runs and most other offensive categories.
Brooke Kuczynski - UTL, Downers Grove, Ill., New Smyrna Beach High School
"Brooke was the best surprise when she showed up to camp after the staff got hired last summer. She is a rare lefty - lefty outfielder that has a strong arm and a big bat. She continues to impress us with her ability to play centerfield or first base at the highest level. She works extremely hard to be the best and continues to make it clear she wanted to call Paradise home during the recruiting process. Brooke adds another strong lefty bat to a class full of offensive weapons. I will never forget Brooke made a SportsCenter ESPN diving catch at PGF Nationals. I remember how proud I was watching and thankful I get to watch those types of plays for the next four years."
Kuczynski was named Class 2A First Team. She is a player who can play anywhere on the field and made a tremendous play in the outfield that featured as one of the top 10 plays on ESPN SC.
Annika Segedi - OF, Trenton, Mich., Trenton High School
"Annika is our first recruit from the state of Michigan, and I know she is going to be so excited to play in warm weather. There is one thing about Annika that I have grown to love is that when she wants something she fights for it and will not give up. During her recruiting process that became very evident to me. I want players who work hard and want to do whatever it takes to play for our staff. She is a coach's dream with a personality that just lights up the room. She is a triple-threat outfielder that is comfortable being at the top of the lineup. We are so excited we got this northerner down to Paradise and excited for her career."
Segedi has racked up accolades throughout her high school career, being named First Team All-Academic Team, First Team State (Michigan), First Team All-District, First Team All-Region, among many awards.
Destiny Johns - UTL, Groveland, Fla., South Lake High School
"Destiny is spunky and plays with passion. She is triple threat at the plate, and you can find her most days at the leadoff spot. She is versatile and can play infield or outfield. She is small in stature but big in heart when she plays. Every time someone on our staff watched Destiny, she was always getting on base and being a spark plug for her team. There is something to be said for consistency and we feel like she brings that to this class. We are excited to see her continue to develop into the player we know she can be."
Johns not only impresses at the plate. She is a tri-sport athlete at South Lake High School, where she plays volleyball, basketball, and softball.
Emma Grace Williams - RHP, Buford, Ga., Buford High School
"EG is our first pitcher in the last two classes. If there is one thing she knows, it's how to win. Every team she has been on has been very successful. There is something to be said about learning how to compete and winning which we think she will bring that with her. She is tall and has long levers which we think she will continue to grow stronger. She is going to spin and hit locations with the best of them. She came to camp and blew me away with her presence and poise on the mound. After meeting EG and her family, I knew this is someone we wanted to build our team around to support her in the circle."
Williams owns a 28-1 record with a season left in her high school career this upcoming spring.
Sophia Camacho - C, Boca Raton, Fla., Spanish River Community High School
"Home grown and we couldn't be prouder that she is staying home. It is hard to watch your teammates and friends commit to schools away from home and think if you should do the same. She trusted us and listened to her heart to make an impact in the community and bring championships back to Boca. She is an amazing catcher with really good mechanics. The ability to build relationships with her pitchers was something I was very impressed with while watching her. She brings a big personality and competitive spirit that we know will make a huge impact!"
Camacho was a part of the 2023 FHSAA State Champion team when Spanish River defeated Plant City to win the first championship title in school history.
The Owls will begin their 2024 season
on Feb. 8 at home against Marshall during the Paradise Classic.
