BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team has added Tamar Kvaratskhelia as a volunteer assistant coach, announced Ricardo Gonzalez, FAU's director of tennis.
"I'm super excited to welcome Tamar to our family," said Gonzalez. "One of the things that caught my immediate attention is her positive energy. Tamar will make an immediate impact on our team and is a great asset to our coaching staff. I amlooing forward to learning from her."
Kvaratskhelia ability to assist the Owls is in line with her current position as ProWorld Tennis Academy, in nearby Delray Beach, Florida. She has worked at the Academy since 2019 focusing her attention as the primary coach for the high-performance juniors. She also has developed a training program for juniors UTR 8.0 and higher.
Prior to the Academy, Kvaratskhelia served as the performance coach at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, from 2017-18, and at 4 Star Tennis Academies in Fairfax, from 2015-16, where she taught both junior performance players ages 12-18 and the adults 4.0+. She served as a tennis professional at Boars Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, from 2014-15, while simultaneously serving as the University of Virginia women's volunteer assistant. Kvaratskhelia gained her first teaching experience at Junior Tennis Champions Center in College Park, Maryland in 2013-14.
Kvaratskhelia played collegiate tennis at Kansas State University where she was a four-year letterman and was named All Big 12 in singles. She advanced to NCAA postseason play in singles and tallied the team's most wins as a freshman. She held a No. 3 Ukraine national ranking and a No. 1 ranking in the Republic of Georgia.
She will begin working with the Owls right away as the team returns an experienced squad in 2022-23, all vying to improve up a No. 66 ITA national rank.
Five Owls tallied double digit wins in 2021-22, and four of the five earned double-digit wins through the dual match season. Junior Katerina Filip had a team-leading 13-4 dual match record, playing primarily on court two. Freshman Millie-Mae Matthews was 13-7 dividing time between courts five and six. Lexi Silna was 10-5 on the year, and handling court one was Martina Kudelova, who finished her redshirt junior season with a 10-9 record.
FAU is expected to enjoy more depth in 2022-23 with three experienced players joining the workouts this fall.
