BOCA RATON, Fla. – Tamara Racine has committed to join the Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team, as announced by
Ricardo Gonzalez, the Owls' director of tennis, on Tuesday.
Racine is the first to commit to the Owls since Gonzalez assumed the help of the women's program, currently ranked No. 69 nationally.
Director of Tennis Ricardo Gonzalez
"I am extremely excited to have Tamara on board. Since our first conversation over the phone, we seemed to have a good connection. She will blend easily with our girls' personalities and will fit right in with our team culture. Tamara will bring a lot of experience to the table. She is a very strong player in singles and doubles and will immediately impact our team. I am excited to be a small part of her development on and off the court."
Racine joins the Owls after a four-year career at Mississippi State, where she tallied a 39-51 singles record, but arguably contributed the most in doubles play in which her national rank climbed as high as No. 14 nationally and she tallied a 49-50 record, to date.
She will join an Owl team that returns each of the starters and Racine will help to balance the roster as the third upper classmen, including Martina Kudlova a rising fifth-year FAU senior and junior
Katerina Filip, who has played the last two seasons with the Owls. The trio will guide five underclassmen, who have gained valuable experience in 2022, while helping the Owls maintain their perennial spot in the national rankings.
Prior to college, Racine was named the U12, U16 and U18 Quebec provincial champion. She finished sixth in singles and third in doubles at the U18 Canadian National Championships and won several ITF doubles titles over her career. Racine also made an appearance in the doubles' semifinals at the ITF 15k women's events.
