TAMPA, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team, ranked No. 68 in the latest ITA rankings, closed out the 2022 regular season with a 4-0 win at USF.
The Owls improve to 12-10 on the season, 7-3 all-time versus USF and assure themselves of a winning record for the eighth consecutive season. Four Owls end the 2022 regular season with double digit wins, led by junior Katrina Filip, who is 13-4 on the season.
On Sunday, the Owls split results on courts one and three and needed a tiebreaker to decide court two's winning pair, and it was freshmen
Millie-Mae Matthews and
Greta Schieroni, who clinched the doubles point for FAU with a 7-6 (7-3) win.
Needing just three singles wins to secure the match, the Owls went to work. Filip won court two in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Schieroni won court four 6-4, 6-2 and Matthews took court six 6-0, 6-3.
Director of Tennis Ricardo Gonzalez
"I'm very pleased with our performance today. Our girls played solid tennis from top to bottom. This is a good way to finish our regular season. Our team will have a few days off to mentally and physically recover before our conference championship."
