BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University swimming & diving team just competed in their first meet of the 2021-22 season last Friday and is already gaining recognition from the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association.
Alec Peckmann was tabbed CCSA Swimmer of the Week, while
Brandon Shepherd won Diver of the Week. This is the first honor of its kind for both athletes.
Both swimming & diving squads are coming off wins over NJCAA powerhouse Indian River State. The men's team edged out the Pioneers by a score of 156-143.
Peckmann won all of his individual events, as well as his relay on Friday. He began the season with a first-place showing in the 200 free (1:41.03) and followed that up with the proverbial gold in the 100 free (45.94). In the 200 IM, an event where he holds the school record and the 2021 CCSA Championship gold medal, Peckmann earned a clear first-place victory (1:52.91). The York, Pennsylvania native wrapped up the day by contributing to first place in the 400 free relay as the anchor leg (3:04.80).
Shepherd competed in his first collegiate diving meet last week, and did not have to wait long to receive conference recognition. The Fort Myers, Florida product delivered big points in the Owls win, commencing the season with a second-place showing on the 1-meter dive with 259.87 points. Shepherd also claimed a top-three finish with the proverbial bronze on the 3-meter (233.02).
The Owls will next host Florida, on Saturday at 10 a.m. at FAU Aquatic Center.
