BOCA RATON, Fla. –
Klara Zarnovicka saw her first collegiate action last weekend for the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team, and the freshman's efforts garnered her Conference USA's week one Freshman of the Week honors.
"Klara had a great weekend," said
Fernanda Nelson, FAU's head volleyball coach. "She brings so much passion to our team. We are excited to see how she continues to grow on and off the court."
Not once did the Ostrava, Czech Republic native look like a freshman that walked onto the U.S. soil and FAU campus just a few short weeks ago, except maybe her enthusiasm. Her aggressive play was instrumental in the Owls' success and comeback wins, especially in the third match. She used an all-around game, recording a team-leading 65.5 points scored, 52 kills (an average of 4.0 per set), and five block assists and one solo for six blocks. She was second on the squad with 80 receptions (.900) and had a total of 10 aces. Zarnovicka earned a spot on the All-Tournament team and guided FAU to a runner-up finish. She started in each of the Owls' three matches and played in every set (13). She is the player that every fan waits to see touch the ball.
Zarnovicka and the Owls will hold their second tournament in as many weekends this week, playing host to Bethune-Cookman and Stetson. Matches begin Friday morning at FAU Arena.
